Williams, Arizona to Hurricane, Utah via
Las Vegas, Nevada – 388 miles
It was an early morning rise to get on the road. We were on a mission to et our air
fixed. Temperatures started in the 40’s
in the morning and we were actually a bit chilly. That didn’t last long as the temperatures
rose to the mid 90’s by the time we crossed the border of Nevada.
With extra time built
into our schedule, we were able to visit the Hoover Dam for a quick peek. Since 9/11 security is required to enter the
Hoover Dam. We had to pull the RV up to
a security point and two security officers checked both inside and out of the
rig. After passing the security review,
we were on our way down to the Hoover Dam.
We drove across the dam from Nevada to Arizona and back. As we made our way across the dam, Blake
commented on the fact that prior to the construction of the Hoover Dam, Narrows
Dam at Badin, North Carolina was the largest dam in the United States. Seems weird that a dam that sits almost in
our back yard at home would be that large.
The Hoover Dam, at 726.4 feet was the country’s tallest dam in the 1930s but was surpassed by the 770-foot high Oroville Dam in Northern California in the year 1968.
I shared with Blake yet another connection with my past and the Hoover Dam. Prior to the building of the Hoover Dam, Gatun Lake in Panama was the largest man-made lake in the world. After the Hoover Dam was constructed, Gatun Lake was no longer the largest - Lake Powell was!

After
a few pictures, we were back on the road to Vegas. We had an appointment to get our air fixed!
Pulling
into the parking lot of W.W. Williams Truck Repair, I saw a sign stating they
were an air conditioning specialist center with quick service – YEAH!!!! It took a little while to get in. When they came to take the RV into the shop,
Blake, Tilley, and I took the car and headed to my friend, Ron’s house. Al waited behind to see what they could
figure out about the air. It took a
whole three minutes for the mechanic to find a loose wire under the dash that
had gotten knocked off on the passenger
side. Well that was an easy fix! After a few other “fixes”, Al was on his way
to Ron’s for the day.
Ron
is a friend of mine from Panama. It was
great to spend some time with him hanging around the pool and catching up. After a great spaghetti dinner prepared by
Ron, we were off to Hurricane, Utah.
