Hurricane, Utah to Grand Junction, Colorado – 379 miles
Happy Father’s Day to Al!
We started our day off with a beautiful run through Quail Creek State
Park. No rattlesnakes were to be found
today although we did not venture anywhere close to that side of the road that
Al refers to as “Rattlesnake Alley”.
Upon returning to the RV, we all went down to eat at the
breakfast buffet offered at the clubhouse.
We quickly ate (not surprising to anybody who knows this family),
relaxed, and headed back up to the RV to get ready to head out. Today we leave Utah and begin our time in
Colorado.
I took the first shift of driving in order to allow Al some
time to get organized and make some contacts needed for work. We started climbing a little more than we did
before. Thank goodness for climbing
lanes up the hills. Loox – that is our
RV’s name – doesn’t go too fast at climbing so we have to be patient. Even with my foot down all the way, our speed
dropped below 50 miles per hour.
We took I-15 north in Utah and took a right on I-70 which
would take us right into Grand Junction.
I was not prepared for the unbelievable scenery we experienced while
crossing eastern Utah. The canyons of
rock were so dramatic in shape and size.
The highway cut through these spectacular masterpieces of God. It was surreal! Blake and I laughed because we compared the
scenery to Thunder Mountain in Disney.
It was hard to believe these were real and not produced by man. I have never seen anything like it before.
We arrived into Grand Junction right before dark hungry and
tired. All we really wanted was pizza
and a movie for the evening. We looked
up a local pizza place on Yelp, placed an order, and got situated.
We were told when we checked in that our site was the nicest
one in the KOA. It had a nice side yard
for Tilley, a patio, fire pit, and a dinner table. Blake pulled out our chairs – first time on
our trip – and got everything set up to watch a movie outside.
Our pizzas were delivered just in time. We enjoyed every bite before starting Oceans
12. What a perfect way to end a fabulous
Father’s Day Celebration. Tomorrow we
head to Cotopaxi, Colorado!
